Doing Old Coyote's Work

From My Mindmap to Yours

Professionally, one of the items that I am continuously working on is communication. I work with complex data sets and concepts and with colleagues of many different skillsets and backgrounds.

I spend alot of time thinking about the right metaphor or picture to help convert my mind map of a concept to my partners' in the work. I collect the tools that I think would work best (and are easiest to use).

For example, my leadership seems to justwant 2 sentences when describing something. 1 describing the topic/issue and 1 describing the solution. Then they ask follow-up questions. This seeems like an impossibility some days.

If I'm doing my job well and if I understand my area of expertise well enough, I should be able to do this. Or to give TED talk. Or do an interpretive dance to get these complex ideas across.

What's the point of having all this specialized knowledge that I've built my life around, if I can't communicate it and help others do their jobs better?
