Doing Old Coyote's Work

An Assessment

I've been way over the line of burnout for awhile. This week off has helped me recharge. I have managed to reduce some of the work stress, But I know it will back by 10 am Monday morning.

I was hoping to be able to pull back and assess the work situation during this vacation. Being able to sit down yesterday and write here was the start. I did start sketching out a tentative workplan... just an idea to bide the time until the right leap appears.

Here's what I know

  1. I manage team of 4 analysts and 1 office support manager.
  2. There is too much work to do for the team and the department
  3. There is limited resources and hiring new staff.
  4. The entire architecture of the department needs to be reworked due to technology changes.
  5. There has been huge investments in AI, but limited training.
  6. Priorties (and leadership) change daily.

This is all the perfect storm to show why something has to give. This is unsustainable.

On top of this, I'm ready to take my career to the next level. I don't want to invest to much effort in this current situation as I start making my next move.

The best I can figure is I need to stick to the basics - do my responsibilities as best as I can. Then, I work on the things that charge me, things that makes it better for the department and my colleagues.

I'm not sure how to pick these thing when I am constantly being sucked into. This is why I need more time off... To dig into this question.
